Philly Cheesesteak

Philly Cheesesteak

Just like its name states, the Philly cheesesteak originated in Philadelphia. Loaded up with peppers and caramelized onions, it’s no wonder these sandwiches became a hit nationwide. Now you can try making these famous sandwiches right at home!

Yields6 Servings

Ingredients

 1 tsp canola oil
 1 medium onion, sliced
 1 red pepper, sliced
 1 green pepper, sliced
1 ½ lbs sirloin or ribeye beef, cut into 1/4 inch or thinner strips
 1 tsp garlic powder
 ½ tsp salt
 ½ tsp pepper
 ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
 ½ tsp low-sodium soy sauce
6 hoagie rolls, sliced lengthwise, toasted
 6 slices provolone cheese

Directions

1

In a large pan over medium-high heat, warm the oil. Add the onions and peppers, cooking about 12-15 minutes, or until soft. Remove from the pan and set aside.

2

Season the beef with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Add the beef to the pan and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side. Add the Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce, return the onions and peppers to the pan and toss to coat. Continue cooking for 2 minutes or until heated through. Serve on hoagie rolls, topped with sliced cheese.

Note: Some stores offer shaved beef, which can be used for this recipe as it’s what we used in the photo. If using, stir more frequently because the thinner beef will cook much quicker.
