Italian-Style Grilled Cheese

What’s more nostalgic than a classic grilled cheese sandwich? I often crave them but I also like to have a little fun with them by changing up the cheeses and flavors. In this version, provolone and mozzarella melt into this deliciously-cheesy, pesto-infused, served-on-garlic-bread grilled cheese! Is it a bit over the top? Sure. Is it worth it You betcha!

Ingredients

 4 slices sandwich bread
 2 tbsp (28 g) butter, divided
 ¼ tsp garlic powder
 ¼ tsp Italian seasoning
 4 slices mozzarella
 4 slices provolone
 ¼ cup (59 ml) pesto, divided
 ¼ cup (59 ml) marinara sauce, divided

Directions

Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees F (190 degrees C).

Butter one side of each slice of bread and season with garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Assemble the sandwiches, butter side down, two slices of provolone, pesto, and two slices of mozzarella. Top with the last bread slice and secure with a toothpick. Place in the air fryer and cook for 4-8 minutes, or until browned, carefully flipping halfway through.

Serve with marinara on the side for dipping.
