Caramelized Onion Patty Melts

Caramelized Onion Patty Melts

A patty melt may be best described as a cross between a grilled cheese and a cheeseburger. Perfectly seasoned beef burgers are paired with caramelized onions and served on toasted bread with melty swiss cheese. Try this fun-textured sandwich the next time you’re in the mood for a good burger!

Yields2 Servings

Cook Time40 mins

Ingredients

4 tbsp (56 g) butter, plus more if needed
 1 small onion, diced
 8 oz (227 g) ground beef
 ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
 ½ tsp paprika
 ½ tsp pepper
 ½ tsp salt
 1 tsp brown sugar
 ¼ tsp garlic powder
 ¼ tsp onion powder
  tsp ground cumin
 4 slices sandwich bread
 4 slices swiss cheese
 1 tbsp (14 g) mayo
 Oil spray

Directions

1

In a medium skillet over medium-high heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the onions and cook for 20 minutes, stirring often, until desired color is reached.

2

Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

3

Meanwhile, in a small bowl, using your hands, combine the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, pepper, salt, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and cumin. Divide the mixture into two even patties. Spray the air fryer with oil, add the patties, and cook for 5-9 minutes, flipping halfway through.

4

Butter one side of each slice of bread. Assemble the sandwiches, butter side down, one slice of swiss, burger, half of the onions, another slice of swiss, and mayo. Top with a bread slice, and secure with a toothpick. Place in the air fryer and cook for 4-8 minutes, or until browned, flipping halfway through.
