This is a delicious American dish. Plus it’s easy to make. In fact, you can do the prep work the night before. Dish up the egg and milk topping (as explained in the recipe) onto the bread. Let the dish sit overnight in the fridge. The next day you can bake it as directed. The prep time is only 15 minutes. However, the bake time is another 45 minutes. You can choose to use Texas toast. You may also want to try a substitution of two regular slices stacked. Either way, in the end you’ll have a candied treat.

The recipe is made up of regular household ingredients like butter, brown sugar, eggs, bread, and milk. Additionally, pecans are included in the list. Pecans are high in nutrients like antioxidants. They may even assist in disease prevention, heart health, and the lowering of cholesterol.

If you want to make this breakfast into a brunch check out the author’s suggestion. The author of the recipe recommends viewing “Jan’s Famous Quiche.” The two served together can make for a filling and tasty brunch.

Plus, the quiche can also be prepared the night before. You can bake both items the next day.

This is a nice touch to the classic French toast dish. It allows the “chef” to prepare the night before for an easy morning. It delivers a flavorful, candied punch. Enjoy the dish with a little butter, syrup, and maybe some whipped topping. Have a sweet morning.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. *Please note that this recipe is best made the night prior and refrigerated over night.*
  2. Lightly coat a 13x9 pan with cooking spray.
  3. Mix melted butter and brown sugar together and pour it in the pan. Add chopped pecans on top of the mixture if you wish.
  4. Lay the 6 slices of Texas bread in the bottom of the pan or stack 2 pieces of regular white bread if you can't find Texas bread. (If you notice in our photo we couldn't find it either. hehe)
  5. Scramble your eggs and whole milk together and pour it evenly over the top of your bread.
  6. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and leave it set over night. In the morning you will want to preheat the oven to 350° and set the timer for 45 minutes.
  7. When it comes out of the oven you'll need to cut around each slice of bread and immediately (carefully) flip the 13x9 upside down on to another dish. The brown sugar w/pecans will now be the topping on your Baked French Toast!
  8. *If you need to make breakfast for a bunch check out Jan's Famous Quiche recipe as well. Both can be made the night before. Both can go in the oven together for the same temp and time. You'll look super efficient!*
