This home appliance quickly rose to fame as a means to make healthier versions of your favorite fried foods. But what actually is an air fryer and do you need one?
There’s No ‘Frying’ Here: Call it gimmicky, if you want, but the air fryer actually doesn’t fry at all and in many cases, you may not actually need any oil. Looking at the way it’s designed, the air fryer is closer to being a miniature convection oven than it is a deep fryer. Its small interior mixed with a high-powered fan allows for better heat distribution than a standard convection oven and gives food that almost fried crispiness we know and love.
Do You Need One? This appliance sure is handy, and we have a book all about cooking in it. So with that said, we’re obviously sold on it! But they may not be for everyone. While larger versions are now available, the air fryer’s biggest downside is that small interior mentioned earlier. That really isn’t ideal if you’re cooking for a family but is great for cooking smaller portions or side dishes.
Now that you know a bit more about the pros and cons of the air fryer, hopefully, you know whether it’s the right fit for you. If you’re still unsure or need a little inspiration, check out the following recipes we made using this handy appliance!
